About work "live" and "dead"

The boss, representing the new employee the subordinate, addresses to them with the request: “Show to it, that you do, when think, that I observe of you”. For you as for the head opaquely interaction of departments in your organisation? Are sincerely puzzled with how to build in available functions of the personnel new kinds of activity? How to estimate productivity of this or that work? Or how to reorganise or design new process?

Each head cares of that the quantity of people in the organisation was optimum that each employee carried out the functions not only as it is possible more qualitatively and more professionally, but also as soon as possible.

However in practice all looks absolutely differently: the part of employees groans from an overload while other part patiently is silent, probably, owing to the natural patience and diligence, and, probably, just for the reason that "delay".

Any kind of activity of the person changes in due course: there are modern technologies and the equipment, receptions and methods, rules and norms, procedures and standards. These changes demand higher skill level of employees, promote development at them new skills. At the same time the part of the works which were carried out earlier, "dies off", becomes superfluous and unnecessary.

"Dead" work is a work which does not add value for the Client, end user. "Dead" work — an assemblage of "narrow" places in process where time is wasted, there are additional costs and expenses, between divisions barriers are created (information, communicative), there are conflicts between workers.

The client pays for "live" work! That is for such work in the course of which performance the product is created, additional cost or consumer value. To distinguish, what particularly "work" (read: operation, function, a process site) is "dead" so — superfluous, it is necessary to analyse process.

Cпросите any employee, what kinds of works, to it carried out, are "dead", what — "live". The reasonable employee will answer fairly, that all work carried out by it is "live" (to whom hunting to consider, that what it does, — superfluous?). It is possible to be satisfied, of course, with such answer, to pass to inquiry of the following worker and to receive the same sincere answer. Employees will be absolutely right, because working processes in the organisation фрагментированы, are broken on functional areas and operations. And after all «if stars are lighted, that, means, it is necessary for somebody».

The longer there is an organisation, the it is more difficult to separate "live" work from "dead". All are engaged in by business, heads will not lift from computers, machine tools, phones and so forth And who from managers is rare, not speaking about ordinary employees, will look back around and will see all chain of processes as a whole, from the beginning up to the end.
